Bye bye Chang Mai

Up at Doi Sutep Temple,

My stay in the north has come to its end. Tomorrow I'll be packing and heading to Bangkok where I'll stay a few days before descending south to those tropical islands and white beaches I have long longed for. Don't get me wrong, I have totally enjoyed staying here on the mountains, with the jungle in the immediate surroundings and waterfalls at quick reach! The north is quite a diverse space, as one can easily see from the faces of the different hill tribes people and migrants or hear from the dialects and languages spoken (they say). Of course, I didn't get much of the liguistic variable! I relied more on the faces, on the textiles and customs to grasp this variety which, ones again, must be showed in pictures rather than commented in words. Here some photos!

  4. I bought a few bracelets indeed, they are very insistent with that.

Hi Geert, August is still a good moment to visit Thailand. It is here low season but also rainy season. Rainfalls are not too heavy though, so should be ok. I didn't go to Phuket but to Ko Samui in the Gulf of Thailand. Everybody says that Phuket and its surrounding islands is wonderful but quite expensive. Thailand's islands in general are a beautiful place, where one can do snorkeling, kayaking, diving, jungle treks and many day trips...if interested there are also many courses to learn diving or snorkeling. E-mail me if you/they have questions or want to know more.
